What is secondary Glazing?

Secondary glazing consists of an additional pane of glass which is installed on the inside of an existing single glazed window. Installing secondary glazing improves security, provides noise insulation, and increased thermal efficiency, making it a cost effective way to reduce energy bills.

Our Secondary windows are white as standard, but are also available in standard RAL colour finishes to suit any decor, and can operate as vertically or horizontally opening windows.

Glazing Options available:

4mm Float or Toughened glass or panel / 6mm Float or Toughened glass or panel
6.4mm Laminated glass
6.8mm Laminated acoustic glass

Why Choose secondary glazing?

There are a variety of reasons why you may not want to replace existing windows. The windows may be in a listed building and protected by conservation laws, you may not want to remove beautiful traditional windows, or perhaps the single glazed units are still in good condition.

Our secondary glazing units are made to fit inside your existing windows and are practically invisible from the outside of the property and the slim line frames ensure that they are unobtrusive on the inside.

Advantages of secondary glazing:

Secondary windows are an inexpensive alternative to double glazing
Secondary glazing is perfect when existing windows must be maintained
Choices of fixed, hinged, lift out, vertical & horizontal sliding units
Secondary windows offer easy and clean installation
Secondary glazing improves thermal insulation
Secondary windows help eliminate draught
Secondary glazing provides better sound proofing than single glazing

Noise pollution reduction

Secondary glazing can help to reduce unwanted noise such as traffic where a building is situated on a busy main road. The gap created between the existing single glased window and the installed secondary unit can make a significant noise reduction as the two panes of glass are not coupled together as in double glazed units but act as independent barriers. A minimum gap of 100mm is recommended between the external window pane and the fitted secondary glazing. The bigger the gap left between the two panes, the more effective the noise reduction will become.
